Producing larger than average (in comparison to other Syringa meyeri forms) sprays of sweetly scented flowers, which usually appear repeatedly from mid-spring to mid-autumn, Flowerfesta Purple really lives up to its name. It’s relatively compact too, so will happily flourish in a larger pot – and given its showy nature, it definitely merits a spot in the garden.
Garden care: In mid-summer remove the faded flower heads carefully using secateurs to avoid damaging the young shoots. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring.
