- Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. The fruits can be stored in a cool, dry and dark place on shallow trays for up to three months. Allow the fruits to mature for six weeks before using. This semi-dwarfing rootstock quince is self-fertile.
One of the most popular quince varieties and its ability to tolerate drought makes it an ideal choice for the drier parts of the country. As well as the fruit, during spring this tree produces a spectacular display of delicate pink blossoms. ‘Champion’ is a reliable variety with better resilience to wetter soils. The large rounded fruits have a good aroma and flavour.
