This small Japanese cherry tree erupts with elegant bronze-tinged foliage in spring that matures to green in summer before turning lovely shades of orange and yellow in autumn. It’s a slender, columnar cultivar which unveils a plethora of dainty yet deep pink single blossoms in mid spring that offer a stunning floral display against its fresh spring foliage. With its graceful, erect habit, disease resistance, and adaptability to various soils, ‘Collingwood Ingram’ is an award winning (RHS) winning cherry tree ideal for small gardens needing a flowering focal point.
Grown on the versatile and robust, semi-vigorous Colt rootstock which tolerates poorer soils, and is suitable for a wide range of applications.
Plant bare root trees as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). When siting your ornamental cherry, select a spot that is sheltered from strong winds to protect the delicate blossoms. Stake your new tree to anchor it while the roots establish. Water thoroughly at planting and keep the soil moist for the first year by watering regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. After planting, maintain a weed-free area around the base of the tree, and use a tree guard if rabbits or deer are an issue. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker, cutting back any dead, diseased, or crossing branches.
