A dark purple-blue plum with yellow flesh, heavy cropper. A very early-season, dual-purpose dark-blue plum with yellowish-green flesh. ’Katinka’ is a heavy-cropping plum perfect for kick starting summer desserts and puddings as the free-stone fruits begin to ripen from mid-July. The fruits themselves are medium sized and firm with excellent eating qualities being sweet and juicy.
Pollination Information: Though partially self-fertile, this plum will produce a bigger crop if planted with another variety of plum. Ideally this should come from the same pollination group 2, however it is possible to use one from group 1 or 3 as well.
When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Mirabelles and other stone fruits should be pruned in the summer because they are prone to a disease called Silver Leaf which enters through cuts. If you prune in late summer, the flow of sap is slowing down but is still running fast enough to seal up any wounds. Check and remove any damaged, diseased or broken branches.
