‘Redhaven’ is a widely planted vigorous and fast-growing variety, popular as a ‘freestone’ peach, its yellow flesh comes away easily and cleanly from the stone and has good resistance to peach leaf-curl. Ripening early to mid-season in the UK (end of July), ‘Redhaven’ is a self-fertile tree (and will produce good crops without pollination) with a very good, strong, peach flavour, and juicy flesh. It is best picked and eaten straight from the tree although bakes and preserves well too.
It’s best planted in a warm position – against a sheltered south-facing wall or under glass or polythene would be ideal. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of disease.
