Fragrant, dusky-pink flowers appear in mid-spring followed by small, deep red crab apples later in the year. ‘Scarlett’ is a spreading, deciduous tree with arching branches. Rich purple, glossy, lobed foliage turns glossy green as summer progresses with fiery tints of red and yellow in the autumn.
Garden care: Plant ‘Scarlett’ as soon as conditions allow (avoiding frozen and waterlogged soil). Choose a sheltered spot to protect emerging blossom. Incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Remove dead, diseased and crossing branches while the tree is dormant.
