Few flowers have a more exotic fragrance than these. They appear in mid summer and autumn abover the glossy, dark green leaves and fill the air with their heady scent. This is a hardier type than most, so it can survive outside in milder winters in sheltered gardens, but will need protection in colder parts of the country.
Garden care: Grow ‘Kleim’s Hardy’ outdoors in a warm, sheltered position, either in borders or containers in moist but well-drained, acid or neutral soil in partial or light dappled shade. Water regularly, ideally with rainwater, until fully established. Tap water contains lime and over time, reduces the soil acidity. If watering with tap water, we advise a regular application of sequestered iron or sulphur chips to the pot compost or soil to boost the soil acidity. Alternatively, grow under glass in lime-free compost in bright, filtered light with high humidity.
