A bright and bountiful mix of long season springtime bulbs showcasing a multitude of colour from tulip, allium, narcissus, iris and freesia varieties. Each pack contains a selection of carefully chosen flower bulb varieties that come together to create a stunning, floral display in borders, beds, pots and containers throughout spring. Whether you’re planting up in your own garden or looking for the ideal gardening gift, this is the perfect collection to add colour and beauty to any area of your garden. Bulbs grow between 80cm and 1m in height.
In each collection you will receive the following:
- 6 × Tulipa ‘Van Eijk’ (PBR): This is a stunning tulip to add to the spring border. A stately grower, it has sturdy stems that stand up well in poor weather conditions, topped with very generously proportioned reddish-pink flowers, which tend to last longer than the average tulip. Also, being a Darwin hybrid, there’s a good chance that it will flower over several years. Grows to 55cm.
- 5 × Narcissus ‘Sailboat’: Each stem can carry up to three sweetly scented flowers, so when planted en masse, these jonquils not only look good, but smell great too. They have creamy-white, windswept petals and a cup which fades from butter to cream as it matures. Plant plenty so you have some for cutting too. Grows to 30cm.
- 3 × Allium hollandicum ‘Purple Sensation’: Probably one of the most popular of all the alliums, they have a striking silhouette which makes them particularly well suited to gravel or prairie-style planting schemes, but they also look fab in pots or mixed borders. Grows to 1m.
- 8 × Allium moly: Clusters of loosely-packed, star-shaped, brilliant yellow early summer flowers and grey-green leaves. This vigorous, golden garlic is perfect for planting in a light woodland area. The brilliant yellow flowers and strap-like foliage look spectacular next to the drooping heads of purple snake’s head fritillaries. Grows to 25cm.
- 8 × Iris × hollandica ‘Blue’: Handsome additions to the garden, these Dutch iris are also really popular cut flowers. They look wonderful when planted in drifts through the border, or when allowed to form larger clumps in naturalised planting schemes – and in late spring or early summer, each upright stem will produce a short succession of flowers. Grows to 55cm.
- 10 x Freesia ‘Single Mixed’: A bit of a challenge to grow (but well worth the effort), these cottage garden favourites produce sprays of fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers at the ends of arching, branched stems in summer. A favourite with the florists, they look superb planted in a mixed border or just en masse in patio pots. Grows to 25cm.
These spring flowering bulbs should be planted from August to November. For best results, plant in full sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. If you’re planting them in a pot or container, ensure good drainage. Keep them well watered during the growing season.
- Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs – not to be eaten
