Pale mauve-blue six-petalled flowers with a white central bar and crimped margins bloom from early to mid-summer, and again in late summer to early autumn. Free-flowering and compact, ‘Tranquilité’ is great for the smaller garden, or a modest wigwam of canes, to lend colourful height in a small border or large pot where its subtle flowers will illuminate a partially shaded spot.
Garden care: Clematis prefer a moist, well-drained, humus rich soil with the roots of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Remove dead and damaged stems before growth begins in early spring, cutting all remaining stems back to where strong buds are visible. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
